Oriole at the cactus

It's been fairly birdy around our house, mainly at the bird baths. A few birds are starting to eat the cactus fruit including this hooded oriole.

Pond Park, Murrieta

We visited Pond Park because a family of Least Bitterns had been reported. We only saw one, but it was quite entertaining hoping among the reeds. We also saw a few Ruddy Ducks and Wood ducks.

Black Oystercatcher

Here's a photo of a black oystercatcher from Del Rey Lagoon. I'm not sure what he caught.

Bolsa Chica: Rails, Skimmers, and more

Stopped by Bolsa Chica last weekend since the Ridgeway Rails chicks have hatched. With a little patience and a little luck, I was able to find a family.





The black skimmers were out and for the first time at this spot, I saw some skimming.



It's hard to resist the reddish egrets.



A few American Pelicans were out.




An osprey was flying overhead too
