Horned Lark

Horned Lark
We tried several time to see horned larks and finally succeeded today on Fiesta Island in San Diego. They blend in pretty well with their habitat but we found about 10 but only one showing the “horns.”

Lazuli Bunting from Utah

We’ve tried a few times in California to find Lazuli Bunting. We’ve got a few views in San Diego and Pasadena, but no great photos.
Mike was at a conference in Salt Lake City and visited the botanic gardens there. The Lazuli Buntings were plentiful and posed for several photos.

Spring migrants at the drip

The spring migrants have been trickling in. We spotted a new yard bird, a red-breasted nuthatch, who visits the drip daily.

Return of the Waxwings

Cedar Waxwings feast on our Toyon berries every year, but they don't have a set schedule. Some years, they come by late December. Last year, it was March. This year, late February.

Sweetwater Creek State Park, Lithia Springs, Georgia

We went to Atlanta to visit family. We had time one day to drop by Sweetwater Creek State Park. Our target bird was the brown-headed nuthatch, a bird we only learned about the morning of our outing. Its distinctive call made it easy to locate but it took a while to get some good views and photos.

We also saw birds that frequented our backyard in New Jersey.
